Celebrating Indian Athletes' Achievements

On September 25, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya extended his congratulations to Indian athletes Gulveer Singh and Manpreet Kaur for their impressive performances at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Gulveer secured a silver medal in the men's 10,000m race, while Manpreet earned a bronze in the women's shot put event.

In a post on X, Mandaviya praised Gulveer Singh, stating, "A STUNNING RUN FOR SILVER! Congratulations to Gulveer Singh on a brilliant Silver Medal in the Men’s 10,000m at #AsianGames2026!"

Mandaviya also took to X to commend Manpreet, stating, "Congratulations to Manpreet Kaur on winning the Bronze medal in Women’s Shot Put at the #AsianGames2026!"

In the men's 10,000m race, Gulveer clocked a time of 28:29.38, finishing just behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who won gold with a time of 28:27.51. Albert Kiptoo from Bahrain took home the bronze with a time of 28:34.38, as reported by ESPN.

Gulveer, who serves as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, maintained a strong position throughout the race, only to be outpaced by Balew in the final moments. Nevertheless, he secured the silver medal comfortably.

This achievement marks an improvement for Gulveer, who previously won bronze in the same event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

On the other hand, Manpreet achieved her best throw of 17.17 meters during her fourth attempt, which earned her a spot on the podium. The gold medal was claimed by China’s Song Jiayuan with a throw of 19.40m, while Zhang Linru secured silver with 18.14m, according to ESPN.

With these victories, India's overall medal count at the Games has reached 23, including two gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze medals.
