Indian Athletes Shine at 2026 Asian Games with Multiple Medals

New Delhi, September 28: President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to Indian athletes Gulveer Singh, Parul Chaudhary, and Vithya Ramraj for their impressive performances at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya.
Gulveer Singh secured his second silver medal in the men's 1500m event, finishing with a time of 3:36.72. Parul Chaudhary also achieved her second bronze medal in the women's 5000m, clocking in at 15:14.61. Vithya Ramraj earned bronze in the women's 400m hurdles, setting a national record with a time of 54.75 seconds.
In a message posted on X, President Murmu praised Gulveer Singh for his silver medal in the men's 1500m, highlighting his personal best and his remarkable achievement of winning a second silver at these Games.
“I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Gulveer Singh for clinching the Silver Medal in the Men’s 1500 Metres at the Asian Games 2026. Achieving a personal best in this event makes this accomplishment even more impressive. Following your Silver Medal in the 10,000 Metres, this is yet another outstanding performance on the track. Wishing you continued success in the future,” President Murmu stated.
President Murmu also recognized Parul Chaudhary for her bronze medal in the women's 5000m, commending her for winning two medals in just two days at the Asian Games.
“Congratulations to Parul Chaudhary for winning the Bronze Medal in the Women’s 5000 Metres at the Asian Games 2026. Achieving two medals in two days is a significant milestone. May this remarkable feat motivate you to reach even greater heights in your athletic career,” she remarked.
In her message to Vithya Ramraj, the President applauded her personal best and new national record, noting that her performance would serve as an inspiration for younger athletes.
“Warm congratulations to Vithya Ramraj for winning the Bronze Medal in the Women’s 400 Metres Hurdles at the Asian Games 2026. With a personal best and a new national record, your exceptional performance has added another proud chapter to India’s athletics history. Your record-setting achievement will inspire the younger generation to aim higher and strive for excellence,” she expressed.
Gulveer Singh's second silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games came after he led the race for most of its duration, only to be surpassed by Japan's Kazuto Iizawa in the final moments, who took gold with a Games record.
Parul Chaudhary, meanwhile, earned her second bronze medal at the Asian Games with a time of 15:14.61 in the women's 5000m, maintaining pace with the leaders until Winfred Yavi and Nozomi Tanaka surged ahead in the last lap to secure gold and silver, respectively.
Vithya Ramraj's bronze in the women's 400m hurdles was marked by her breaking the long-held national record she shared with PT Usha. UAE's Mariam Kareem won gold with a Games record of 54.31 seconds, while Kazakhstan's Adelina Zems took silver with a time of 54.58 seconds.
