India's Women Claim Asia Cup Title

In a repeat of last year's events, the India women's cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, secured a decisive victory against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. This win mirrored the men's team's triumph in the Asia Cup the previous year.

Following their victory, the Indian team declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan's Interior Minister, echoing the actions of the men's team.

Reports indicate that this gesture was made in solidarity with the men's team's previous stance.

Amol Muzumdar, the head coach of the Indian team, emphasized that the team supports the position taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

As the medal ceremony for Sri Lanka concluded, with skipper Chamari Athapaththu receiving the runners-up cheque from Naqvi, the broadcast shifted back to the studio for post-match analysis.

In a press conference, Muzumdar stated that being recognized as champions is sufficient for the team. He remarked, 'That stand has been taken by the BCCI and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over; we are the champions. That’s good enough.'

Prior to the presentation ceremony, the Indian team gathered for a huddle, where Muzumdar addressed the players, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia along with vice-president Rajiv Shukla presented the 'Fielder of the Match' award to pacer Nandani Sharma.
