Expanded Tour Schedule for India Women in South Africa

Johannesburg [South Africa], August 6: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced an expansion of the India Women’s cricket tour later this year, now including a three-match T20I series. The updated itinerary will feature matches across all three international formats.

Initially, the tour was set to include a warm-up match, three ODIs, and a single Test from December 6 to 23. However, it has been revised to extend until December 30, with the Test match scheduled to take place first, followed by the ODI and T20I series, as reported by Cricinfo.

The addition of the T20Is will offer both teams essential match practice ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, which is slated for February in Sri Lanka.

The one-off Test is scheduled to occur in Gqeberha from December 9 to 12 and will not conflict with the South African men's home Test series against England. The three ODIs, part of the Women’s Championship and crucial for qualification for the 2029 Women’s ODI World Cup, will be held in Paarl, Cape Town, and Bloemfontein.

The newly introduced T20I matches will take place in Benoni and Potchefstroom, with games set for December 26, 29, and 30, coinciding with the festive season.

Cricket South Africa's chief executive, Pholetsi Moseki, expressed enthusiasm about the revised schedule, stating, “We are thrilled to confirm the updated itinerary for India’s tour of South Africa, which now includes the T20 International series during the festive period. This ensures our Proteas Women are optimally prepared for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year.”

Moseki further noted, “India is among the top teams in world cricket, and competing against them in all three formats will provide invaluable experience as we gear up for another significant ICC event.”

This extended tour follows India’s visit to South Africa for a five-match T20I series in March-April, where the hosts emerged victorious with a 4-1 win. The two teams also faced off during the Women’s T20 World Cup in England, where South Africa's victory significantly impacted India’s chances of advancing to the semi-finals.

The revised schedule is part of a busy home season for South Africa, which will also host Australia, Bangladesh, and England men's teams, along with India and Australia women's teams across various formats.
