India Unveils T20I Squad for Ireland and England, Welcomes Young Talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
India's New T20I Squad Announcement
The Indian cricket team has officially revealed its squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as for the Asian Games 2026. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the team is taking a fresh approach. Notably, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to be selected for the national team following an impressive IPL season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly making a significant exception for the young opener from Bihar.
Special Provision for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
In a notable shift from its usual travel policies, the BCCI has decided to allow Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's parents to accompany him on his first overseas tour with the senior team to Ireland and England, as per sources. This decision is particularly remarkable given the strict travel regulations that the BCCI implemented in early 2025. After facing challenges during the 2024-25 season in Australia, the board revised its family travel policy to enhance discipline within the team. Currently, families are generally not allowed to travel on short tours. For longer overseas assignments exceeding 45 days, players may have their partners or children under 18 join them, but only for a maximum of two weeks. Additionally, if any exceptions are made beyond this timeframe, the player is responsible for all associated costs, as the BCCI will not cover these expenses.
