Tanmay Baloda's Stellar Performance Leads India to Victory

Ahmedabad, Oct 7: In a remarkable display of spin bowling, left-arm spinner Tanmay Baloda took an impressive 14 wickets in the match, including eight in the second innings, guiding India Under-19 to a decisive ten-wicket victory against Australia Under-19 during the second four-day match at the Narendra Modi Stadium ‘B’ Ground on Wednesday.

This victory secured a 2-0 series win for India U-19 in the red-ball format. Baloda, who joined the team as a last-minute replacement for the suspended Rohit Yadav, achieved figures of 6-32 in the first innings and followed it up with 8-41 in the second, as Australia was dismissed for 151 runs.

Chasing a modest target of 11 runs, India completed the task in just five balls, with Lakshya Raichandani hitting two boundaries off Spencer Green in the first over to seal the series. Earlier, India had triumphed in the first four-day match in Rajkot by an innings and 48 runs, complementing their earlier 3-0 victory in the one-day series.

Starting their second innings at 86/4 and trailing by 55 runs, Australia required a significant recovery to remain competitive. However, Baloda quickly struck by dismissing Zed Hollick and Charlie Henderson in the first four overs of the day.

Meanwhile, right-arm medium pacer Priyanshu Singh (2-25) maintained the pressure from the other end, taking out Jacob Pietz and Thomas Vaseo, leaving the visitors in a precarious position. Baloda then finished off the innings by taking the crucial wicket of Blake Cattle, who was the top scorer for Australia with a resilient 63.

In their first innings, Australia was bowled out for 174 runs in 73 overs. India responded strongly with 315 runs, led by half-centuries from captain Yashbardhan Chauhan (52) and wicketkeeper-batter Abhipray Biswas (73), despite a notable performance from Australian leg-spinner Spencer Green, who took 7 wickets for 110 runs.
