Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], September 25: Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet have brought home India's second gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 by winning the mixed team event in the 10m air pistol category. This victory contributed to a successful Day 6 for India, which secured a total of six medals during the event.

The Indian duo showcased an impressive performance in the finals, accumulating 484.6 points to clinch the gold, surpassing South Korea, who finished with 478.0 points for silver. Notably, Suruchi and Kamaljeet also set a new Asian record, breaking the previous mark of 481.3 points established by Uzbekistan earlier this year at the Asian Shooting Championships held in New Delhi.

On this productive day, India also earned two silver medals and three bronze medals, raising its overall medal tally to 23, which includes two gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze.

The first silver medal was secured in shooting, with Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Niraj Kumar finishing second in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event. They scored 1762-94x, narrowly missing gold to China, who achieved 1766-95x, while South Korea took bronze with 1751-87x.

In individual events, Tomar and Niraj placed fifth and eighth, respectively. Another silver was claimed by Gulveer Singh in the men's 10,000m race at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, where he clocked 28:29.38, finishing just behind Bahrain's Birhanu Balew, who won with a time of 28:27.51.

Gulveer, a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, maintained a strong position throughout the race until Balew surged ahead in the final moments. This silver medal marks an improvement from his bronze at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Gulveer has been in excellent form, having won gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships. He also made history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by being the first Indian to win two track medals in a single edition, securing silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m.

Among the bronze medalists on Day 6 was Manpreet Kaur in the women's shot put, who achieved her best throw of 17.17m on her fourth attempt. China's Song Jiayuan took gold with a throw of 19.40m, while Zhang Linru secured silver with 18.14m.

Baranica Elangovan made history by winning bronze in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.15m, which matched Russia's Polina Ivanova. The medal was awarded based on countback after both athletes failed to clear 4.25m.

In table tennis, Manush Shah and Diya Chitale earned a bronze medal in mixed doubles after reaching the semi-finals, where they lost to China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha. Earlier, they had a notable victory over Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem in the quarter-finals.

India is also set to secure more medals in squash, with Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar advancing to the mixed doubles semi-finals after defeating the Philippines' David Pelino and Jemcya Aribado.

In men's singles, Abhay Singh reached the semi-finals by defeating Japan's Ryunosuke Tsukue 3-0, while Anahat Singh progressed to the women's singles last four after overcoming compatriot Tanvi Khanna. However, Veer Chotrani was eliminated after losing to Pakistan's Muhammad Irfan in the men's singles quarter-finals.

Both Indian kabaddi teams have advanced to the finals, with the women's team defeating Nepal and the men's team overcoming Thailand.

In hockey, the Indian women's team triumphed over Japan with a score of 3-1 in their Pool B match.

On the athletics track, Vishal TK qualified for the men's 400m final after finishing first in his heat, while Kiran and Prachi also advanced to the women's 400m final. In the heptathlon, Anamika and Pooja are currently seventh and ninth overall after the long jump and 800m events.

In swimming, Rishabh Das concluded his campaign by setting a new national record in the men's 200m backstroke, finishing sixth in the final with a time of 1:58.77, surpassing his previous record of 1:59.84. Utkarsh Patil finished seventh in 2:00.94.

Sajan Prakash placed seventh in the men's 200m butterfly final, while Dhanush Suresh missed the 50m breaststroke final after finishing 21st in the heats.

Badminton had mixed results, with Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advancing in women's doubles, and Unnati Hooda progressing in women's singles. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also moved forward in mixed doubles, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a first-round defeat.

In table tennis, Manush advanced in men's singles, while Yashaswini Ghorpade reached the third round of women's singles. Several other Indian pairs and players, including Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini in mixed doubles, were eliminated from their events.

India faced exits in fencing, boxing, equestrian, canoe sprint, weightlifting, and esports, but the day still strengthened its medal standings.

With a total of two gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze medals, India concluded Day 6 in 12th place in the overall standings of the Asian Games.
