India's Fencing Team Excels in Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria - On August 11, India's fencing team showcased remarkable talent at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship, securing a total of seven medals on the second day of the event.

Participating in the Senior Individual categories for Women's Sabre, Women's Epee, and Men's Foil, the Indian contingent added one Gold, two Silver, and four Bronze medals to their impressive collection, as reported by the Fencing Association of India.

The Senior Women's Epee event saw India dominate the podium, with Tanishka Khatri winning the Gold medal and Khushi Dabhade taking home the Silver. Prachi Lohan also contributed to the success by clinching a Bronze medal, sharing the podium with Australia's Harrison Asley.

In the Senior Women's Sabre category, India continued its strong performance, achieving three podium finishes. Aakhari earned a Silver medal, finishing behind England's Brierley, who secured Gold, while Jefarlin and Shruti Joshi both earned Bronze medals.

Tejas Patil represented India in the Senior Men's Foil event, where he fought valiantly against a competitive international field, ultimately winning a Bronze medal alongside England's David William. The Gold medal was claimed by Alex Tophalidas from Cyprus, with Silver going to Oliver Starange from England.

The success of the Indian team can be attributed to the dedicated coaching and support staff, including coaches Bharatji Thakor, Shrihari Pise, and Shankar Narayanan, as well as physiotherapist Amruta Balkawade and team manager Manu Tyagi. Their unwavering support has been crucial in maintaining the athletes' peak performance as the championship continues until August 14.

Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General of the Fencing Association of India, praised the medalists, coaches, and support staff for their relentless commitment and impressive achievements.
