Both Gill and wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan delivered exceptional centuries, effectively dominating the match and leaving the visitors struggling. This innings allowed India to match a significant world record previously held by South Africa.

The Afghan bowlers, Rashid Khan and Kharoti, combined for seven wickets, with Kharoti's three quick dismissals impacting India's innings significantly. Kharoti's efforts began with the removal of Gill for 154 runs, followed by KL Rahul's dismissal on the next ball. Despite these setbacks, India was on track for a formidable total.
