India Sets New T20I Record with 400 Sixes in a Year
Historic Achievement for Team India
Hamilton [New Zealand], November 1: In a remarkable feat, Team India has become the first squad in T20 International history to hit 400 sixes within a single calendar year.
This milestone was reached during the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday, where the reigning world champions smashed 11 sixes, bringing their total to 400.
Throughout 40 T20I matches this year, India has achieved this impressive tally, far surpassing Austria and West Indies, who both managed 224 sixes in significantly fewer matches.
Among these, 142 sixes were struck against New Zealand, marking the highest number against any opponent in a single year.
Leading the charge in six-hitting for India were Abhishek Sharma with 86 sixes, Ishan Kishan with 60, and Sanju Samson with 50.
Despite a challenging start, half-centuries from captain Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan propelled India to a total of 191/8 after 20 overs, following a four-wicket haul from New Zealand's Adam Milne.
At one stage, India found themselves at 19/2, but a solid partnership of 93 runs between Ishan (61 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and six sixes) and Shreyas (50 runs off 23 balls, with three fours and four sixes) steadied the innings. Contributions from Naman Dhir (33 runs off 23 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (22 runs off 17 balls) were also vital, although Milne's impressive bowling (4/19) curtailed India's chances of reaching the 200-run mark.
