In a thrilling development at the Asian Games 2026, India is set to compete against Sri Lanka in the men's cricket semi-final. This matchup comes after Sri Lanka's quarter-final against Nepal was called off due to inclement weather in Nisshin, Japan, on Tuesday, as reported by a sports news outlet.

The match was canceled before the toss, with relentless rain starting hours ahead of the scheduled 9 am local time, making play impossible. Sri Lanka advanced to the semi-finals based on their superior seeding from the ICC T20I rankings. Alongside Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh entered the tournament as the top four seeded teams.

Led by Shreyas Iyer, India also secured their semi-final spot after their quarter-final against Afghanistan was similarly washed out on Monday, allowing them to progress due to their higher ranking. Pakistan followed suit, moving forward after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was abandoned due to rain.

In the previous Asian Games, Sri Lanka faced elimination in the quarter-finals, losing to Afghanistan. Now, they will challenge India for a chance to reach the final.

The other semi-final will feature Bangladesh against Pakistan, following Bangladesh's quarter-final against Malaysia being canceled later on Tuesday. Both semi-finals are set to take place on October 1, with Bangladesh facing Pakistan first, followed by India taking on Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the women's cricket team from India has already successfully defended its title in Aichi-Nagoya, with Harmanpreet Kaur's squad defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final to secure the gold medal.
