Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 11: India managed to clinch a narrow 14-run victory against the West Indies in the third T20I of their five-match series, thanks to pivotal wickets from Arshdeep Singh and Naman Dhir. This win keeps India's hopes alive in the series, now leading 2-1.
Batting first, India posted a total of 223 runs, despite a mid-innings collapse from 115/1 to 135/5. Arshdeep Singh was instrumental with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 44 runs, while Naman Dhir contributed with 2 wickets for 39 runs, restricting the West Indies to 209 runs for 7 wickets.
The West Indies began their chase poorly, losing captain Shai Hope early for just five runs, bowled out by a delivery from Arshdeep that hit the stumps. The team found themselves at 7/1 within the first two overs.
Shimron Hetmyer and Kamil Pooran then attempted to stabilize the innings, scoring 19 runs in the fourth over, with Hetmyer hitting two fours and a six against Arshdeep. By the end of the powerplay, the West Indies had reached 54 runs.
Hetmyer continued to attack, hitting two boundaries in the final over of the powerplay, but Naman Dhir eventually dismissed him for 43 runs off 26 balls, leaving the West Indies at 67/2.
Rovman Powell, the former captain, fell cheaply to Axar Patel, leaving the West Indies at 82/3. At the halfway mark, they were 84/3, with Pooran and Rutherford at the crease.
Kamil Pooran hit three sixes in the 11th over but was dismissed by Naman Dhir for 42 runs, leaving the West Indies at 105/4. After 15 overs, they were at 149/4, with Quentin Sampson and Rutherford still batting.
Nitish Kumar Reddy broke the partnership by dismissing Sampson for 21 runs. In the 18th over, Arshdeep sealed the match for India by taking two wickets, leaving the West Indies at 174/7.
Shamar Springer tried to turn the tide with a flurry of sixes in the final over, but the West Indies ultimately finished at 209/7, with Springer remaining unbeaten on 35 runs off just 11 balls.
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma's explosive half-century and his partnership with Ishan Kishan propelled India to 223 runs. Despite a strong start, India faced a collapse, losing several wickets in quick succession.
India struggled initially, scoring only singles in the first two overs, but Abhishek broke the shackles with two sixes and a four off Roston Chase. He reached his half-century in just 18 balls, leading India to 87/1 after six overs.
However, the West Indies fought back, with Roston dismissing Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession, leaving India at 117/3. Abhishek was eventually out for 69 runs, and India found themselves at 124/4.
Despite a late resurgence, including a partnership between Tilak Verma and Nitish Kumar Reddy, India could only manage 223 runs, with Mayank Yadav falling to a yorker in the final over.
Roston Chase, Shamar Joseph, and Springer were the standout bowlers for the West Indies, each taking two wickets.
