India Advances to T20 World Cup Final
On March 6, 2026, India triumphed over England by a mere seven runs in the semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This victory propels India into the finals, with Sanju Samson earning the Player of the Match title for his outstanding performance.
Despite his struggles, Abhishek Sharma, who has scored only 89 runs in seven innings during the tournament, received encouragement from his teammate Samson. Sharma's performance included a half-century against Zimbabwe, but he has been seeking consistency.
In a post-match press conference, Samson expressed the team's support for Sharma, stating, 'We are committed to supporting all our players. The atmosphere in the dressing room is fantastic, and both Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav have immense faith in Abhishek. We are here to assist him in any way he needs.'
Samson himself played a crucial innings, scoring 89 runs off just 42 balls, featuring eight fours and seven sixes, which helped India set a formidable target of 253 runs.
In the semi-final, Sharma managed only nine runs from seven balls before being dismissed softly by Will Jacks in the second over.
Samson noted, 'Abhishek has faced many ups and downs in his career. He is working hard to find his form, and we are all behind him. It only takes a few good hits for everything to turn around in this format. We believe in him, and I have a strong feeling that he will shine on the final day.'
England's Jacob Bethell kept the match competitive with his first T20I century, but ultimately, they fell short by seven runs.
India's bowling attack was effective, with Hardik Pandya claiming two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Chakaravarthy, and Patel each took one wicket.
India is now set to face New Zealand in the final match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
