Nisshin, Oct 3: In a gripping encounter, Hasan Nawaz stood out for Pakistan with an impressive unbeaten score of 96 runs off 51 balls. However, his efforts fell short as India secured a convincing 19-run victory, successfully defending their gold medal in the men's cricket final at Korogi Sports Park on Saturday.
The Indian bowling attack, led by spinners Washington Sundar and Axar Patel, each taking two wickets, along with Shivam Dube's crucial wickets later in the innings, played a pivotal role in India's triumph over Pakistan.
Earlier in the match, Abhishek Sharma set a record for the fastest fifty by an Indian against Pakistan in T20 internationals, reaching his half-century in just 20 balls. Tilak Varma also contributed significantly with a powerful late innings, helping India post a total of 211 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs.
Abhishek's innings included 61 runs off 28 balls, featuring three fours and seven sixes. Tilak Varma supported him well, scoring 51 not out, while the pair of Tilak and Shivam Dube added a crucial 62 runs for the sixth wicket, ensuring a strong finish for India.
Final scores: India 211/6 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 61, Tilak Varma 51 not out; Arafat Minhas 2-25, Ahmed Daniyal 2-43) defeated Pakistan 192 in 20 overs (Hasan Nawaz 96, Saim Ayub 29; Washington Sundar 2-29, Axar Patel 2-29) by 19 runs.
