Read on to find out more.

India's Struggles Continue in the UK

India's disappointing performance in the UK persists as they recorded their third consecutive loss. Following a whitewash against Ireland, the team aimed to defend a target of 191 runs against England in the second T20I. However, the home side successfully chased down the target, taking a 1-0 lead in the series after the first match was abandoned due to rain. Captain Shreyas Iyer addressed the media post-match, highlighting the pivotal 17th over as a crucial moment in the game. At that point, England required 49 runs from the final 24 balls, and they managed to score 29 runs in that over, reducing the target to 20 runs off 18 balls. Iyer remarked, "We all know where it slipped away, but I don’t want to single out any player. I expected him to bounce back after that no-ball, but the 17th over was our downfall. He will learn from this experience. The score we set was commendable given the pitch conditions. We were in control for the first 15 overs, but credit goes to Jacob for his performance. They assessed the ground dimensions and pitch early on," he stated. Iyer praised Curran's strategic bowling and expressed confidence in his team's spirit despite the setbacks. With the last three T20Is being crucial for India, another loss would mean they cannot win the series. The next match is scheduled for Tuesday (July 7) in Nottingham.

Shreyas Iyer's Challenging Start as Captain

Shreyas Iyer's tenure as captain has begun on a challenging note, with India experiencing a rough patch in T20Is. Under his leadership, India faced their first-ever defeat against Ireland in his debut match as captain, culminating in a 2-0 series loss. Following this, the team has already faced a setback against England, leaving Iyer still in search of his first victory as captain. Despite his successful track record in the IPL, where he led three teams to the finals and secured the IPL 2024 trophy with Kolkata Knight Riders, the international stage has proven to be a different challenge.
