India Eyes More Medals on Day 10 of Asian Games 2023

As the Asian Games progress into its 10th day, India is poised to enhance its medal tally with significant events in athletics and boxing. Gulveer Singh aims for a third medal in the men's 5000m final, while three boxers are set to compete for finals spots. With various other sports also in action, including shooting and squash, the day promises to be packed with excitement. India's Medal Aspirations at the Asian Games

As the Asian Games reach their 10th day, Indian athlete Gulveer Singh is set to compete for a third medal, while three boxers aim for finals spots.


Gulveer, who has already secured silver in both the 1500m and 10,000m events, will participate in the men's 5000m final alongside fellow athlete Avinash Sable. This final is scheduled for 4:45 PM IST, with Sable also hoping to clinch a medal after narrowly missing out in the steeplechase.


Additional medal opportunities await on the athletics track, with Dev Meena and Kuldeep Kumar competing in the men's pole vault final at 2:50 PM. The women's high jump final will feature Pooja Singh and Supriya Sindigere Basavaraju at 3:35 PM.


In the women's hammer throw final, Tanya Chaudhary and Anushka Yadav will represent India, while Pooja will also compete in the women's 800m final, and Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath will take part in the men's 800m final.


India's relay teams will also be in action, with the mixed 4x100m relay final at 5:18 PM, followed by the women's 4x400m final at 5:35 PM and the men's 4x400m final at 5:47 PM.


In boxing, Parveen Hooda is set to face China's Li Shu in the women's 65kg semifinal at 10:15 AM, while Ankush Panghal will take on Uzbekistan's reigning world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev in the men's 80kg semifinal at 11 AM.


Narender Berwal will compete against Kazakhstan's world champion Aibek Oralbay in the men's +90kg semifinal at 11:30 AM. All three boxers have already secured at least bronze medals.


The shooting events will also see action, with the women's and men's trap finals taking place. Neeru Dhanda, Manisha Keer, and Aashima Ahlawat will compete in the women's final at 10:30 AM, while Kynan Chenai, Ahvar Rizvi, and Shapath Bharadwaj will participate in the men's final at noon.


India's women's squash team will continue its Pool C matches against Iran at 6:30 AM, while the men's volleyball team faces Qatar at 12:30 PM, a match that could determine the Pool C leaders.


In archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan will begin their men's recurve individual campaigns in the round of 16, while Kumkum Mohod and Kirti Sharma will compete in the women's round of 16.


Kishore Kumar Anbarasu will represent India in surfing, taking on the Philippines' Toby Espejon in the men's shortboard quarterfinal at 4:54 AM, with hopes of advancing to the semifinals.


Track cycling will feature team sprint and team pursuit events, while Vipin Kumar will compete in the men's -66kg kurash event. India will also participate in canoe slalom, sailing, sport climbing, and tennis.


In tennis, Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh will play their men's singles second-round matches, with India's men's and mixed doubles teams also in action.


With athletics, boxing, shooting, squash, volleyball, and various other sports offering chances for medals, India aims to enhance its medal tally on this busy day at the Asian Games.


As of the end of Day 9, India ranked 12th in the medal standings, boasting four gold, 20 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
