India Dominates ISSF Junior World Cup with 16 Medals in Cairo

India's junior shooting team showcased an outstanding performance at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo, bringing home a total of 16 medals, including five golds. India's Impressive Performance at the ISSF Junior World Cup

New Delhi [India], April 26: Hemant Burman clinched a silver medal in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, while the duo of Zuhair Khan and Addya Katyal secured a bronze in the Trap Mixed Team category. This achievement contributed to India's remarkable tally of 16 medals, comprising five gold, six silver, and five bronze, at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup held in Cairo, Egypt.


In the day's opening final, Hemant Burman achieved a silver medal with a score of 351.7 across three positions in the 50m event. The 18-year-old shooter qualified for the finals in seventh place with a score of 578-24x, competing alongside Vedant Nitin Waghmare and Rohit Kanyan, who scored 581 and 580, respectively. Rohit finished sixth with a score of 311.9, while Vedant placed seventh with 300.5.


Oleg Noskov from Kazakhstan set a new world junior record with a score of 355.6 to win gold, while Uzbekistan's Nikita Solokov took home the bronze with a score of 341.2. Other Indian competitors, Manvendra Singh Shekhawat (578-23x), Kushagra Singh Rajawat (576-24x), and Hithesh Srinivasan (574-26x), did not make it to the top eight.


In the final event of the Junior World Cup, Zuhair Khan and Addya Katyal earned a bronze medal with a total score of 19 after qualifying with a score of 137. Despite being in silver medal contention after the first two series, the pair struggled in the third series, with Addya missing four out of five shots and Zuhair missing one, resulting in their drop to bronze.


The gold medal was claimed by Hungary's Bence Doeboerhegyi and Anna Nyitrai, who set a new world junior record with a score of 32, while neutral athletes Ramir Nikolaev and Kseniia Tatarinova secured silver with a score of 25.


In the Women's 50m Rifle Prone event, Indian shooters Tejal Nathawat, Yugeshwari Bais, Anushka Thokur, and Khwaish Sharma did not finish in medal positions.


Looking ahead, the Indian junior athletes are set to focus on the ISSF Junior World Championship, a prestigious event on the calendar, scheduled to take place in Suhl, Germany, in June.
