India Clinches T20 World Cup 2026 Title with Sanju Samson's Stellar Performance
India Triumphs Over New Zealand in T20 World Cup Final
In a remarkable display, India secured a 96-run victory against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, marking their third title and making history as the first team to win consecutive championships. Sanju Samson emerged as the standout player of the tournament, achieving three consecutive scores exceeding 80, including an impressive 89 in the final match. His exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Tournament award, symbolizing a significant comeback for the Kerala wicketkeeper-batter, who initially sat out the early matches of the tournament. Samson credited cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar for his resurgence, sharing that he had been in regular contact with Tendulkar leading up to the final. "For the last couple of months, I have been in constant contact with Sachin sir. I reached out to him and had big conversations with him. Getting guidance from someone like him, what more can you ask for? Even yesterday he called me and checked up on me, I’m really grateful for that. I am very grateful for everyone who supported me," Samson expressed.
Overcoming Adversity: Samson's Journey
'After The NZ Series, I Was Broken'
Prior to the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson faced a challenging series against New Zealand, where Ishan Kishan's outstanding performance led to him being chosen as the primary wicketkeeper-batter for the initial matches of the tournament. Samson reflected on his aspirations to make a significant impact in a World Cup, having been part of the 2024 squad without playing a match. However, following the New Zealand series, he felt disheartened. "When I was in the 2024 World Cup team where I didn't play, I kept visualizing, kept on working and this was exactly what I wanted to do. After the NZ series I was broken, my dreams were completely shattered. And I was thinking what can I do. But God had different plans. And I was rewarded for being brave enough to dream," he shared.
