India Clinches Silver in Women's 10m Air Rifle Team at Asian Games

Nagoya [Japan], September 20: The Indian women's team has proudly secured a silver medal in the 10m air rifle event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The talented trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Vidarsa Vinod achieved this milestone, marking the country's first medal at the Games on Sunday.

With a combined score of 1898 points, the Indian team finished second, trailing behind the Chinese team. Japan took the fourth position, while Korea still had one shooter yet to complete her series.

Elavenil Valarivan delivered an impressive performance, scoring 633.5 points, and has also qualified for the individual finals. Sonam Maskar will join her in the finals as well.

This silver medal marks a significant start for the Indian shooting team at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, establishing the nation's presence on the podium.

In another event, Suchika Tariyal also earned a medal by defeating Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in the women's traditional 60kg MMA category, securing her spot in the semifinals on Friday in Nagoya.

Baigalmaa started aggressively in the second round, attempting to turn the match in her favor, but Suchika's solid defense held strong against the pressure.

As Baigalmaa continued her offensive, Suchika executed a pivotal reversal, bringing her opponent to the ground and maintaining control until the round concluded, ultimately winning the match.

This victory not only advanced Suchika to the semifinals but also confirmed India's first medal at the Games.
