India's Cricket Squad Unveiled for West Indies Series
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 16: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the Indian squad for the forthcoming white-ball series at home against the West Indies, along with the Rest of India team for the Irani Cup against Jammu & Kashmir, as per a BCCI advisory.
Newcomer Naman Dhir has received his first call-up to the national team, while pacer Auqib Nabi is set to make his ODI debut. The squad features seasoned players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, with Shubman Gill taking on the captaincy role and KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. Notably, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been omitted from both squads.
The ODI series kicks off with the first match in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, followed by the second ODI in Guwahati on September 30, and the third ODI in New Chandigarh on October 3.
Subsequently, a five-match T20I series will commence in Lucknow on October 6, with additional matches scheduled in Ranchi on October 9, Indore on October 11, Hyderabad on October 14, and Bengaluru on October 17.
Shreyas Iyer will lead the T20I squad against the West Indies, with Tilak Varma as his deputy. The team includes players like Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan as wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube, among others.
Despite being excluded from both the ODI and T20I teams, Rishabh Pant has been appointed captain of the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup match against Jammu & Kashmir. Pacer Akash Deep is also part of this squad, pending fitness clearance.
Varun Chakaravarthy will miss the upcoming Japan T20I on September 22, which is part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic relations and the 2026 Asian Games, due to a side strain. Vipraj Nigam has been named as his replacement, marking his first international call-up. Additionally, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was initially part of the Asian Games squad, will now participate in the ODI series against the West Indies.
