India's ODI Squad Unveiled for West Indies Series

New Delhi, September 17: The Men's Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies, set to commence on September 27.

Rohit Sharma, amidst ongoing retirement discussions following the tour of England, joins Virat Kohli in the 15-member ODI lineup. Shubman Gill will take charge as captain, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.

This series will allow India to evaluate various players as they gear up for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rishabh Pant has been appointed captain of the Rest of India team for the Irani Cup, but his absence from the ODI squad is noteworthy, as he has not participated in ODIs since November 2024.

Due to Ishan Kishan's commitment to the Asian Games, Dhruv Jurel has been selected as the second wicketkeeper alongside KL Rahul.

With Test series against New Zealand and Australia on the horizon, Pant currently does not seem to be a priority for the white-ball format.

The squad also sees the return of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj to the ODI setup. Jadeja was absent from the recent ODI series against England, while Siraj was rested due to workload management.

Jadeja's inclusion raises questions ahead of the 2027 World Cup, while Axar Patel will participate in the Asian Games as part of the T20 squad.

Notably, the selectors have granted maiden ODI call-ups to Jammu and Kashmir's Auqib Nabi and Punjab's Naman Dhir, adding fresh talent to a squad that includes Nitish Kumar Reddy, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Gurnoor Brar.
