Ibrahima Konate Confident as France Prepares for FIFA World Cup 2026 Semi-Final Against Spain
France's Confidence Ahead of Semi-Final
In Texas, Ibrahima Konate, the centre-back for France, expressed his team's determination as they gear up for their FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final match against Spain. He emphasized that Les Bleus must not harbor fear towards any opponent as they approach this crucial encounter.
During a press conference prior to the pivotal match, Konate highlighted the importance of focusing on their own game plan and striving for peak performance against the formidable Spanish side.
Konate stated, "You cannot fear anyone. We will prepare as thoroughly as possible and hope for a favorable outcome in the end."
Acknowledging Spain's strengths, the Liverpool defender insisted that France's strategy would not revolve around neutralizing a single player, including the talented Lamine Yamal.
He remarked, "Spain is an outstanding team with numerous individual talents, so we won't concentrate solely on one player, even if Lamine (Yamal) is exceptional."
France has reached four World Cup finals in the last seven tournaments. If they advance to the showdown on July 19 in New York, they will draw comparisons to West Germany, known for their four finals appearances between 1974 and 1990.
However, Konate stressed that the team is not preoccupied with potential outcomes, stating, "We are remaining humble and will not fall into that trap."
France has demonstrated the most impressive and controlled performance in the knockout stages among the remaining teams.
After topping Group I, they began the knockout phase with a decisive 3-0 win over Sweden in the Round of 32.
They followed this with a narrow 1-0 victory against Paraguay in the Round of 16, and then secured a disciplined 2-0 win over Morocco in the quarter-finals, earning their spot in the semi-finals.
With six goals scored and none conceded in the knockout rounds, France has showcased remarkable defensive discipline and composure under pressure. Even in tightly contested matches, their structure has remained intact, with captain Kylian Mbappe consistently delivering crucial offensive contributions.
