Hyderabad Heroes Secure Spot in Rugby Final
In a gripping semi-final match held at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Heroes narrowly defeated the Chennai Bulls with a score of 29-24 on Saturday during the second season of the Rugby Premier League.
Manuel Moreno, the captain of the Hyderabad Heroes, expressed his satisfaction after the match, stating, “It feels fantastic to overcome the challenge we faced last year. Our coach, DJ Forbes, and the entire team deserve full credit for executing the style of rugby we aimed for from the very beginning. We are ready to give our best again tomorrow as a united team.”
DJ Forbes, the head coach, acknowledged the tough competition in the semi-finals, saying, “We faced significant challenges, and I hope the players are well-prepared for whatever comes next. We made it difficult for ourselves, but if we can correct a few mistakes, we will have a solid chance. The teams are closely matched, but by focusing on the fundamentals and minimizing errors, we can showcase some excellent sevens. I’m thrilled for the players; they have earned their place in the final.”
The Heroes started strong, quickly moving the ball across the field, leading to Taitaifono Tavita scoring within the first minute. The Chennai Bulls responded with a more aggressive approach, with Marika Koroibete pushing through to give them an early lead.
However, Hyderabad capitalized on the space available, with Tavita scoring again on the left wing, followed by Maurice Longbottom’s clever running that set up Ravuama Seruvakula for another try, extending their lead.
Despite the pressure, Hyderabad fought back, with captain Manuel Moreno narrowing the gap to just two points. In the tense final moments, the Heroes maintained their composure, recycling possession until Sambit Pradhan found an opening for the crucial try. Diego Ardao then expertly managed the ball to secure a hard-earned victory.
