Historic Test Victory: India Triumphs Over England at Edgbaston
India's Remarkable Win at Edgbaston
London [UK], July 9: Former England cricketer Darren Gough has lauded the exceptional performances of Indian bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, along with the world’s top Test all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, during the second Test against England at Edgbaston.
India made headlines by achieving a historic 336-run victory over England in Birmingham, marking their first-ever win at this venue and their largest Test win overseas by runs.
Speaking at a charity event, Gough remarked, “India’s batting has been outstanding. In the last Test, despite Jasprit Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep delivered remarkable bowling performances, and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed significantly.”
Shubman Gill, along with pacers Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, played pivotal roles in this memorable team effort, helping India bounce back and level the series after a challenging start.
Akash Deep captivated fans with a stunning ten-wicket haul, setting a new record for the best bowling figures by an Indian in England, surpassing Chetan Sharma’s long-standing record. His match figures of 10/187 eclipsed Sharma’s 10/188.
In the first innings, Deep took 4/88, laying a solid foundation, and in the second innings, he achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, finishing with 6/99.
Ravindra Jadeja also shone with the bat, scoring fifties in both innings—89 in the first and 69 in the second—though he managed to take only one wicket throughout the match.
Siraj was instrumental with the ball, taking six wickets in the first innings and adding another in the second. This impressive 336-run victory not only marked a significant milestone but also leveled the five-match Test series at 1-1.
