Indian Rowers Achieve Historic Victory
On June 29, the Indian Army extended its congratulations to rowing athletes Lakshay and Ujjwal Kumar Singh after they secured India's inaugural gold medal at a Rowing World Cup event.
The duo triumphed in the men's lightweight double sculls category at the 2026 World Rowing Cup III, which took place in Lucerne, Switzerland. They completed the race with a remarkable time of 6:26.09, outperforming competitors from Hong Kong and the Netherlands. This landmark victory is a significant achievement for Indian rowing and is anticipated to motivate aspiring athletes nationwide.
Both gold medalists, Havildar Ujjwal Kumar Singh and Havildar Lakshay, are active members of the Indian Army and represent the Army Rowing Node, which has played a crucial role in developing rowing talent in the country.
In a message shared on X, the Indian Army expressed pride in the athletes' accomplishment, stating, "Historic! India’s First Ever. Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also praised Lakshay and Ujjwal for their gold medal achievement, calling it a historic milestone for Indian rowing. He emphasized their dedication and hard work, stating that this victory showcases the sport's growing prominence in India.
