Jorich Van Schalkwyk Sets New Record in Youth ODIs

Harare [Zimbabwe], July 25: Jorich Van Schalkwyk, an 18-year-old opener from South Africa's Under-19 team, has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first player to score a double-century in men's Youth One Day Internationals.

During the opening match of the tri-series in Harare on Friday, Van Schalkwyk achieved an impressive 215 runs off just 153 deliveries against the Zimbabwe Under-19 squad.

His remarkable innings included 19 boundaries and six sixes, propelling South Africa to a total of 385 runs in their first innings. With this performance, he broke the previous record held by Sri Lanka's Hasitha Boyagoda, who scored 191 runs in 2018.

In response, the Zimbabwe Under-19 team struggled, managing only 107 runs.

Prior to this match, Van Schalkwyk had already set a new South Africa Under-19 record for the highest individual score, having scored an unbeaten 164 against Bangladesh Under-19 just days earlier.

His record-breaking innings lasted 212 minutes and spanned 46.2 overs. Tatenda Chimugoro stood out for Zimbabwe, taking six wickets in his eight-over spell, conceding 62 runs at an economy rate of 7.91.

For his outstanding performance, Van Schalkwyk was named the player of the match.
