Bangladesh Pacers Shine in Historic Test Match

Darwin [Australia], August 13: A remarkable day unfolded for Bangladesh's pace bowlers, Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed, during the first Test against the reigning World Test Champions. Hasan achieved the best bowling figures by a Bangladeshi against Australia, while Taskin celebrated his milestone of 300 international wickets.

On the opening day, Bangladesh dismissed Australia for a mere 198 runs, marking Australia's lowest total against them in Tests and their first score under 200. Hasan delivered an outstanding performance, claiming 6 wickets for 55 runs, dismantling the Australian batting order. He became the third Bangladeshi bowler, following legends Shakib al Hasan and Mohammed Rafique, to take five wickets in a Test match against Australia, and the first to do so on Australian soil.

Hasan's remarkable figures surpassed Rafique's previous record of 5/62, set in 2006, and contributed to Australia's lowest Test score against Bangladesh since 2017. In his 15 Test appearances, Hasan has achieved three five-wicket hauls, ranking second among Bangladeshi pacers, just behind Shahadat Hossain.

Australia struggled to build momentum after a brief 45-run partnership between Travis Head and Jake Weatherald, quickly collapsing to 74 for 4. Although Steve Smith managed to score 71 runs, Hasan's relentless bowling proved too much for the Australian side.

Taskin Ahmed also reached a significant milestone, becoming the sixth Bangladeshi bowler to take 300 international wickets, finishing with figures of 2 for 55. He now boasts 300 wickets across 204 matches, including 13 four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls, with an average exceeding 28.

In the all-time bowling rankings for Bangladesh, Taskin is positioned behind Shakib al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam.
