Himanshu Dhillon Celebrates Silver Medal Success at Asian Games 2026
Himanshu Dhillon's Dedication After Winning Silver
In New Delhi, Indian shooter Himanshu Dhillon expressed heartfelt gratitude after clinching two silver medals at the Asian Games 2026. He dedicated his achievements to his parents, coach Pooja Ghatkar, and the entire support team, following his impressive performances in the men's 10m air rifle events.
Dhillon stated, "I want to dedicate this success to my parents for their unwavering support. Additionally, my coach Pooja Ghatkar and the sports science team, including my mental trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and physiotherapists, deserve recognition for their contributions."
He secured silver in the individual men’s 10m air rifle event, with teammate Rudrankksh Patil taking home the bronze. Together with 18-year-old Parth Mane, they achieved silver in the team event, accumulating a total of 1898.4 points.
The gold medal was claimed by China's Sheng Lihao, Changhong Zhang, and Sihan Ma, who set a new world record with a score of 1899.0 points, surpassing the previous record of 1898.4 established in Cairo last year.
Reflecting on his journey, Dhillon shared insights about his transition from wrestling to shooting, noting that his initial wrestling experience was short-lived due to physical limitations. "I was not fit enough to continue wrestling, training for only 12 days before switching to shooting, which marked the beginning of my career in this sport," he explained.
His interest in shooting sparked during a school visit, as noted by his coach Kuldeep Nehra. Although his family initially envisioned him following in the footsteps of his uncle Hardeep Singh Dhillon, an Olympic wrestler, financial concerns regarding shooting and early performance challenges made the decision difficult.
Dhillon's consistent improvement culminated in his remarkable double silver medal achievement at the Asian Games.
On Day 3 of the Games, India secured a total of seven medals, including one gold, four silver, and two bronze. The women's cricket team triumphed over Sri Lanka by 147 runs to win gold, while the men's badminton team also made headlines by reaching the semifinals.
