Himanshu Dhillon Celebrates 21st Birthday with Asian Games Silver Medals

A Birthday to Remember

Himanshu Dhillon, a shooter from Dahola village in Jind district, marked his 21st birthday in a remarkable way by securing two silver medals for India at the Asian Games. He achieved this feat in both the individual and team categories of the men's 10m air rifle event on Monday.

Coming from a lineage of wrestlers, Himanshu seemed destined for wrestling. However, a childhood injury altered his path, leading him to pursue shooting instead. Although his family resides in Kaithal district, the people of his ancestral village in Jind erupted in joy, celebrating his success with sweets.

His uncle, Sandeep Dhillon, a farmer in the village, expressed their anxiousness while watching Himanshu compete, ultimately celebrating his silver medal win.

Initially introduced to wrestling, Himanshu trained at a Gurukul in Pundri, Kaithal. Unfortunately, an injury during practice forced him to switch sports, and he found his calling in shooting.

Under the guidance of his coach Kuldeep, Himanshu moved to Kaithal for shooting training and later advanced his skills in Delhi through national-level camps.

His grandmother, Birmati, shared that the family watched his performance live on a mobile device, expressing immense pride in his achievements. "It was incredibly fulfilling to witness his dreams materialize. I hope he clinches a gold medal at the Olympics," she remarked.

Despite owning only eight acres of farmland, Sandeep emphasized that the family never compromised on Himanshu's training, even with limited resources.

Residents of Dahola village are planning a grand welcome for Himanshu upon his return, celebrating his accomplishments.

Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, also extended his congratulations to Himanshu, highlighting his achievements as a source of pride for both Haryana and the nation.
