Himachal Pradesh Rewards Gold Medalists from Women's Kabaddi Team

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], October 5: On Monday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that three players from Himachal Pradesh, Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhawna Thakur, who secured a gold medal for India in women's kabaddi at the Asian Games, will each receive a minimum prize of Rs 1 crore from the state government.
During a ceremony to celebrate their remarkable success, the Chief Minister presented the athletes with traditional Himachali caps and shawls. He mentioned that a formal felicitation event would be organized soon, where the players would receive their prize money, as stated in an official release.
Additionally, CM Sukhu revealed that the three athletes would be offered government jobs. Those opting out of the Police Department will have the chance to work in the Youth Services and Sports Department, allowing them to balance their careers in sports with their professional commitments, he noted.
He further highlighted that the state government has significantly increased the prize money through a revised sports policy and is focusing on enhancing sports infrastructure throughout Himachal Pradesh.
In a related announcement, the Chief Minister stated that Renuka Thakur, a player on the Indian women's cricket team, would also receive Rs 1 crore from the state government in acknowledgment of her accomplishments.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil and Principal Advisor (Media) to the Chief Minister, Naresh Chauhan, were also in attendance during the event.
