Atlanta, USA - On July 2, Congo DR's head coach, Sebastien Desabre, faced devastating news regarding his father's passing just hours prior to the team's FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match against England.


In a thrilling encounter, DR Congo nearly achieved a remarkable upset, leading England 1-0 at halftime. However, England's captain, Harry Kane, scored two late goals, securing a 2-1 victory for the Three Lions.


The unfortunate news was disclosed at the conclusion of Desabre's post-match press conference, where team media officer Jerry Kalemo expressed the team's heartfelt condolences, stating, "We announce that the coach has lost his father. Our sincere condolences."


Kalemo mentioned that Desabre's father had been ill for some time but did not elaborate further.
