Celebrating Haryana's Triumph at the Asian Games

Chandigarh, October 5 – Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the state's athletes for their remarkable achievement at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, where they contributed to India's impressive total of 32 medals, including 14 gold. He commended their efforts in bringing honor to both Haryana and the nation.


In a post shared on X, Saini conveyed his pride in the athletes' performance, stating, "The sons and daughters of Haryana have brought glory to the nation with 32 medals. Every citizen of the country is proud of all of you. Heartfelt best wishes to all Indian athletes."


In a video message, he addressed the athletes, saying, "Namaskar, my dear players. I am proud that India has won 85 medals in the Asian Games in Japan, including 21 gold medals. We are proud that Haryana has won 32 of these titles, with our sons and daughters securing 14 gold medals. You have not only won medals but also elevated the pride of the country and Haryana. I extend my heartiest congratulations to all of you. Haryana is proud of you. Jai Hind, Jai Haryana, Jai Bharat."


India finished fourth in the overall medal tally at Aichi-Nagoya, amassing 85 medals: 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze. China led the standings with 341 medals, including 169 gold, while Japan and South Korea followed in second and third place, respectively.


Haryana's athletes played a crucial role in India's success across various sports, particularly in wrestling, boxing, shooting, athletics, and team events.


The Asian Games also showcased outstanding performances from Indian athletes, especially in wrestling, boxing, and shooting, which significantly contributed to the medal count.


India's wrestling team achieved a historic milestone with six medals, including two gold, two silver, and two bronze, marking its best performance at the Asian Games since Jakarta 1962. Gold medals were secured by Aman Sehrawat and Sujeet Kalkal, while Antim Panghal and Nitesh Siwach earned silver, and Deepak Punia and Sunil Kumar brought home bronze.


In boxing, India claimed three gold and three bronze medals, while shooting added 15 medals to the tally, including three gold. Athletics emerged as the leading discipline, contributing 24 medals.


India also made history by sweeping gold in cricket, kabaddi, and hockey, winning both men's and women's events in all three sports. The men's and women's hockey teams qualified for the LA 2028 Olympics by clinching their respective Asian Games titles.


With a total of 85 medals, India achieved its second-best performance in Asian Games history, just behind the record 106 medals won in Hangzhou in 2023. The Aichi-Nagoya campaign was marked by several groundbreaking achievements, including Olympic quotas and historic individual titles, with Haryana's contribution of 32 medals highlighting the state's pivotal role in India's sporting success.
