Harshit Rana's Unexpected Return

Harshit Rana made a surprising return to the ODI squad for the final match against Afghanistan, which took place on June 20. The right-arm fast bowler was initially part of the T20I lineup for the upcoming series in Ireland and England, with plans to travel to the UK. However, the selection committee decided to include him in the ODI team as well, although he did not make it to the playing XI. Rana addressed the skepticism surrounding his selection, particularly since he had not participated in competitive cricket since February. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, a former Indian opener explained, "Harshit Rana's inclusion in the Indian team has raised eyebrows. Some questioned how he could be selected without any domestic matches. It's important to note that the requirement for domestic play only applies when such matches are ongoing. Additionally, participating in simulation games at the Centre of Excellence is considered equivalent for all players."

He continued, "I realize that Harshit Rana faces significant criticism, and you may think I'm promoting him in this video. That's not my intention; I'm merely clarifying the selection protocol. This protocol applies uniformly to everyone, and while it may be uncomfortable to hear, it's the reality."

Rana had previously sustained a knee injury during a warm-up match against South Africa ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, which led to his exclusion from both the ICC tournament and IPL 2026. Now, he is set to make his return to white-ball cricket and is expected to compete against Ireland on June 26. Additionally, he will travel to Japan for the Asian Games and is likely to keep his place in the ODI squad for the England series.

Upcoming Matches for India

India is scheduled to play two T20I matches against Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast. Following the Ireland series, the team will head to England for a series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs. The T20I matches are set for July 1, 4, 7, 9, and 11, while the ODIs will take place on July 14, 16, and 19.
