Harry Brook's Commitment to England

Star batsman Harry Brook, who is expected to take over as England's Test captain following Ben Stokes' retirement, has stated that he will not participate in franchise cricket outside of The Hundred. He emphasized his dedication to representing England on the international stage. Recently, Stokes endorsed Brook as a potential future captain for the Test team, and he is already at the helm for the ODI and T20I formats.

Harry Brook Discusses Franchise Cricket

“I’ve fully committed to England cricket,” Brook expressed ahead of the first T20I against India. “I’ve decided not to engage in any franchise cricket except for The Hundred. My focus is entirely on playing for England, and everything I do on and off the field is aimed at performing to the best of my ability for the team. That’s why I don’t participate in the IPL, PSL, or any other franchise leagues.”

In 2023, Brook played one season in the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he faced challenges despite high expectations, although he did manage to score a century. He was later picked up by the Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2025 mega auction but chose to withdraw from the competition to concentrate on his career with England.

“I’m just content playing as much cricket for England as I can. That’s why I avoid franchise cricket. Personally, I need to focus on my well-being and aim to play as many matches for England as possible, whether as captain or not – I’m just thrilled to be on the field,” he added. The 27-year-old Brook is a key player in The Hundred, representing Sunrisers Leeds (formerly Northern Superchargers), despite his disinterest in international T20 leagues.

Currently, Harry Brook is leading England in the first T20I against India, captained by Shreyas Iyer. This series consists of five T20 matches, followed by three ODIs.
