Harmanpreet Kaur Leads India into Asian Games

On Tuesday, it was announced that Harmanpreet Kaur will continue as the captain of the Indian women's cricket team for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, despite the team's disappointing performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.

The Women's Selection Committee has finalized a 15-member squad for the Asian Games, which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. The Indian team's World Cup journey concluded on Sunday with a defeat against Australia in the group stage.

As the defending champions, the Indian women's team aims to reclaim the gold medal after their victory at the last edition held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.

Smriti Mandhana will remain as the vice-captain, supporting Harmanpreet in her leadership role.

Yastika Bhatia is the sole player omitted from the World Cup roster, with G Kamalini stepping in to fill her position.

Shreyanka Patil, who missed the World Cup due to an ankle injury, has been included in the squad, pending her fitness status.

The batting lineup will feature Harmanpreet alongside Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh, while the bowling duties will primarily fall to Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh, Shree Charani, Arundhati Reddy, and Nandni Sharma.
