Harendra Singh Resigns from Coaching Role

On Monday, Harendra Singh, the chief coach of the Indian women's hockey team, announced his resignation effective immediately, citing personal reasons for his decision.

Sources indicate that Harendra communicated his resignation via email to Hockey India, the governing body for the sport in the country.

There are speculations that Sjoerd Marijne, the Dutch coach who previously led the team to a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, may return to the role of chief coach.

Marijne had stepped down from his position in August 2021.

Harendra Singh, who once coached the United States men's hockey team, took over as chief coach in April 2024.

Before this, he successfully led India's junior men's team to victory in the World Cup held in Lucknow in 2016.

The Indian women's hockey team has struggled recently, managing only two victories in 16 matches during the FIH Pro League 2024-25, and they did not qualify for the upcoming season.
