Gyaneshwari Yadav's Silver Medal Performance

In an exhilarating display of strength, weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav added to India's medal tally by securing a silver in the women's 53kg category at the Commonwealth Games on Monday. The 23-year-old athlete from Bhondiya village in Chhattisgarh achieved a total lift of 199kg, comprising an 88kg snatch and a 111kg clean and jerk.

However, it was Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih who captured the spotlight, lifting an impressive 206kg (93kg in snatch and 113kg in clean and jerk), thereby breaking both the Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games records to clinch the gold medal.

The competition was not just about numbers; it was a gripping contest between two determined young lifters. Each successful lift prompted officials to update the record books as Gyaneshwari and Didih engaged in a fierce battle that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

Gyaneshwari showcased remarkable poise during her snatch attempts, executing all three lifts with precision and grace, maintaining close competition with Didih.

The clean and jerk segment turned into an exciting display of rivalry. Gyaneshwari initiated the round with a 107kg lift, setting a new Commonwealth Games record. The cheers had barely faded when Didih responded with a 110kg lift, breaking the record.

Not to be outdone, Gyaneshwari rallied with a 111kg lift, reclaiming the record momentarily.

However, Didih quickly countered by lifting 113kg, once again rewriting the record books and securing the gold medal.

This marks India's fourth medal in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games and the fifth overall in the event.
