Guwahati, Aug 7: In an exciting match at the Assam Premier League (APL) 2026 held at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati Royals clinched a five-wicket victory against Nagaon Rangers, successfully chasing down a target of 151 runs with nine balls remaining.

Captain Rishav Das played a pivotal role in the chase, scoring an impressive 60 runs, while Sanjay Kumar Singh contributed significantly with a quickfire 45 off 31 balls. The bowling attack was led by Deepak Gohain and Bastab Roy, both of whom took three wickets each, limiting Nagaon Rangers to a total of 151/7.

Nagaon Rangers struggled initially, losing their opener Ruhinandan Pegu in the first over. Deepak Gohain's exceptional bowling dismantled the middle order, claiming the wickets of Jitu Ali, Abhijot Singh Sidhu, and Bishal Roy, finishing with remarkable figures of 3/19. Bastab Roy also excelled with 3/29, including the crucial wicket of Anurag Talukdar in the seventh over, which severely impacted the Rangers' innings.

Despite the early setbacks, Bhargav Dutta's late surge, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 32 balls, helped Nagaon Rangers recover, adding 51 runs in the last five overs alongside Dhruv Raaj Borah, who scored 23 runs. This late effort allowed them to post a competitive total of 151/7.

In response, Guwahati Royals faced an early challenge as opener Rohit Sen was dismissed lbw by Rahul Singh in the second over. However, Rishav Das and Sanjay Kumar Singh steadied the innings with a solid partnership, amassing 97 runs together. Das's aggressive batting saw him reach 60 runs off just 33 balls, featuring eight fours and a six.

Despite a brief collapse where the Royals lost four wickets in five overs, Akshay Kumar Deka's three wickets kept Nagaon Rangers in the game. Nevertheless, the middle-order batsmen ensured a smooth finish, with Gunjan Jyoti Deka scoring an unbeaten 17 and Nipan Deka adding 11 runs, leading the Royals to a comfortable victory at 152/5 in 18.3 overs.
