Gurnoor Brar Shines in Unofficial Test, Eyes Test Selection
Gurnoor Brar's Impressive Performance
Gurnoor Brar has validated the selectors' faith in him with a standout performance during the unofficial Test match between India A and Sri Lanka A. Initially a surprising inclusion for the ODI series against Afghanistan, Gurnoor has now made a compelling case for his selection in the Test squad as well. In the second unofficial Test, the right-arm fast bowler excelled, achieving a remarkable 10-wicket haul. He took four wickets in the first innings and followed it up with six wickets in the second innings of Sri Lanka A, all in just 12.3 overs. His exceptional bowling helped India A dismiss Sri Lanka A for 209 runs. Subsequently, India A successfully chased down the modest target of 33 runs without losing a wicket.
Having played only one unofficial Test in this series, Gurnoor maximized his opportunity. His performance raises questions about his potential inclusion in the Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. India is set to tour Sri Lanka for two Test matches in August, with the first match scheduled for August 15 and the second on August 23. Jasprit Bumrah has indicated his participation in the series.
Mohammed Siraj, who was rested during the white-ball series against England and Ireland, is also expected to return for the Sri Lanka series. Prasidh Krishna has already secured his spot in the team. Gurnoor's inclusion in the squad is a possibility, although he may not debut immediately due to the anticipated presence of more spinners in the playing XI, given the conditions in Sri Lanka.
