Gurnoor Brar Sets Record as India's Top Bowler on ODI Debut
Gurnoor Brar Makes History in ODI Series
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 20: Fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has made a remarkable entry into the record books, becoming the most successful Indian bowler in a three-match ODI series on his debut. This achievement came after another stellar performance against Afghanistan during the third ODI held in Chennai.
Previously, the record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler on debut in a three-match ODI series was shared by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who took six wickets against Zimbabwe in 2016, and pacer Prasidh Krishna, who matched that feat against England in 2021.
Brar had already claimed 3/27 in the first ODI and followed it up with 3/60 in the second. He needed just one more wicket to break the record, which he achieved in the seventh over of the third ODI.
The match itself was highlighted by a sensational century from Jaiswal, a five-wicket haul from Prasidh Krishna, and a powerful half-century from Rohit Sharma, leading India to a nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan, thus completing a series whitewash.
Afghanistan managed to score 218 runs, thanks to a century from skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (102 runs off 131 balls, including 13 fours and a six) and a fifty from Azmatullah Omarzai (50 runs off 56 balls, with five fours and two sixes). However, Jaiswal (110* off 86 balls, with 14 fours and three sixes) and Rohit Sharma (79 runs off 69 balls, with nine fours and three sixes) formed a formidable partnership, contributing 170 runs for the first wicket.
Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer (20*) comfortably chased down the target with more than 21 overs remaining.
