Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer Takes Charge at PCA

Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, the Member of Parliament representing Sangrur, has been elected unopposed as the new general secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).

Although PCA president Amarjit Singh Mehta was absent from the official photographs shared by the PCA, Hayer was seen assuming his new role alongside former PCA secretary Dilsher Khanna and current joint secretary Siddhant Sharma, among others. Reports suggest that Mehta and other officials, except for the vice-president, were present at the Special General Body Meeting.

Last June, Khanna stepped down from his position as secretary before completing his three-year term, citing personal reasons. Following his resignation, the PCA unanimously appointed Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh as the new secretary, but he resigned just eight days later. Subsequently, Sharma was designated as the officiating secretary.

With Hayer's election, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will have a significant presence within the PCA. Mehta is recognized for his close ties with AAP leaders, and his son, Padamjeet Singh Mehta, was elected as the mayor of Bathinda last year. Additionally, Sunil Gupta, who is serving his second consecutive term as PCA treasurer, is the deputy chairman of the State Planning Board Punjab. Deepak Bali, an adviser to the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Board, currently holds the position of vice-president.
