Gujarat Titans Achieve Historic Victory Over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026
Gujarat Titans Dominate Chennai Super Kings
In a remarkable display, the Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a historic 89-run victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during their final league match of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This win positions the Titans favorably for the first qualifier, while marking a significant low for the Super Kings, who have now set a new record for the largest defeat in their history, surpassing the previous record held by the Mumbai Indians (MI) since 2013.
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Titans amassed an impressive total of 229 runs, with Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler each contributing half-centuries. In response, the Super Kings were bowled out for just 140 runs, with Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan each claiming three wickets.
CSK Faces Unprecedented Defeat
This defeat represents the largest margin by which CSK has lost in IPL history, marking the first time they have been defeated by more than 60 runs. The previous record was a 60-run loss to MI at the Wankhede Stadium in 2013. This match also highlights the rarity of teams defeating the five-time champions by such a significant margin, with only three other instances occurring previously, one of which was during MS Dhoni's captaincy.

CSK's Struggles Continue
The Chennai Super Kings have now missed out on playoff qualification for three consecutive seasons. Before the 2024 season, they had only failed to reach the second round twice (in 2020 and 2022). Even considering the two seasons they were absent from the league (2016 and 2017), this marks the first time CSK will not participate in the playoffs for three straight years in IPL history.
