New Delhi, Nov 3: Glenn Maxwell, the dynamic all-rounder from Australia, has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned over ten years across all formats.
As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Maxwell played 286 international matches for Australia, amassing 7,226 runs and taking 136 wickets throughout his career. Known as 'The Big Show', the 38-year-old was instrumental in Australia's triumphs in the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups, as well as the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Maxwell made his international debut in an ODI against Afghanistan in 2012 and quickly established himself as one of the most explosive white-ball batsmen of his era, renowned for his unconventional stroke play and ability to shift the momentum of a match.
He shares the record for the most T20I centuries, with five, alongside India's Rohit Sharma.
A pivotal moment in his career occurred during the 2023 ODI World Cup when he scored an astonishing 201 not out off just 128 balls against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, leading Australia to victory after they were in a precarious position at 91/7.
Maxwell's last Test appearance for Australia was in 2017, having played seven matches, and he has since focused primarily on limited-overs formats, where he has enjoyed greater success.
Previously, he announced his retirement from ODI cricket following the 2025 Champions Trophy, finishing with a total of 3,990 runs in that format. His final T20I match was against Oman in February of this year.
Maxwell's retirement marks the conclusion of an international career in which he became known as one of Australia's most formidable limited-overs players, celebrated for his aggressive batting, effective off-spin bowling, and exceptional fielding skills.
