Gianinna Maradona's Testimony in Court

In a recent negligence trial, Gianinna Maradona, one of Diego Maradona's daughters, expressed her anger towards neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, who was regarded as her father's main physician at the time of his passing. This occurred during proceedings held in San Isidro, Buenos Aires.

Gianinna took the stand to testify against seven medical professionals accused of negligence related to her father's death in 2020. She voiced her frustration, stating, "I heard on television that he claimed he wasn't my father's doctor, and it infuriates me that he refuses to accept responsibility."

Luque, along with six other defendants, is undergoing a retrial after a mistrial was declared last May when one of the judges, Julieta Makintach, withdrew due to backlash over her involvement in a documentary about the case.

The negligence allegations suggest that Maradona's medical team failed to provide proper care in the weeks leading up to his death at his home near Buenos Aires. The football legend passed away at the age of 60 from cardiac arrest while recuperating from surgery for a brain blood clot.

The accused, who deny all charges, face culpable homicide accusations, which are akin to involuntary manslaughter, indicating that they were aware of the risks associated with their alleged negligent actions but chose to ignore them.

Gianinna asserted that Luque, along with psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Diaz, were accountable for her father's health during his home confinement, where she claimed his condition worsened daily without any apparent intervention.

In response, Luque's defense contends that Gianinna and her sister Dalma, the eldest daughters of the late soccer icon from his relationship with Claudia Villafane, failed to act promptly to ensure their father's care during his prolonged health decline.
