Germany Dominates Curacao in World Cup Opener: Coach Nagelsmann Reflects
Germany's Impressive World Cup Debut
Houston, June 15: After a commanding victory against Curacao, Germany's head coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed his thoughts on the match. He acknowledged that the equalizer from the debutants was unexpected but praised his team's intensity, noting areas for improvement as they face tougher challenges ahead.
Curacao made history with their first World Cup goal, scored by Livano Comenencia in the 21st minute. However, Germany's experience shone through, leading to a resounding 7-1 victory, with standout performances from Kai Havertz and Deniz Udav.
Post-match, Nagelsmann remarked, "The initial 15 minutes were exceptional, and we created numerous chances. The equalizing goal from Curacao caught us off guard, but it was impressive to see how our team responded to it."
He also acknowledged Curacao's performance, stating, "They exceeded expectations and played with courage. Scoring seven goals is no small feat, and while we are pleased, there is still room for improvement as we anticipate tougher opponents in the tournament."
Nagelsmann emphasized the need for patience during the first half but was thrilled with the relentless energy displayed in the second half, which he believes is crucial for their quest for a fifth star on their jersey.
He added, "Germany has high expectations, while Curacao does not, which can complicate matters. At 1-1, we needed to remain patient, and the team is eager to give their all. If we maintain this intensity, we can have a successful tournament."
The coach concluded by highlighting the support from fans, who sang a song titled 'the train has no brakes,' and expressed determination to keep pushing forward in the tournament.
Germany's next match is against the Ivory Coast in Toronto on Saturday.
