Gautam Gambhir Returns to Delhi for IPL 2026 Clash Between DC and KKR
Exciting IPL 2026 Match at Arun Jaitley Stadium
The 51st match of IPL 2026 features the Delhi Capitals (DC) taking on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, attracting a large crowd of enthusiastic fans. Among the attendees is Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, who has come to enjoy the match with his family and batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak. Gambhir, a resident of Delhi, has previously hosted Team India for dinner on several occasions.
Notably, Gambhir has a rich history with both franchises in the IPL. He began his IPL journey with the Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) and captained them during the 2010 season. In the 2011 mega-auction, he transitioned to KKR, where he was appointed captain and led the team to victory in IPL 2012, followed by another title in 2014. However, he was released by KKR before the 2018 mega-auction and returned to Delhi, where he eventually stepped down from captaincy mid-season due to the team's struggles.
After retiring from international cricket in December 2018, Gambhir took on the role of coach for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and 2023. He made a comeback to KKR as a mentor for IPL 2024, where he successfully guided the team to their first title in a decade. His impressive coaching performance caught the attention of the BCCI, leading to his appointment as the head coach of the Indian national team.
