Gautam Gambhir Encourages MS Dhoni to Consider Coaching Role
Gambhir's Aspirations for Dhoni
The head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, has expressed his hope that former captain MS Dhoni might take on a coaching role in the future. This sentiment came after Dhoni shared a post on Instagram celebrating the Indian team's victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Dhoni, a key figure for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), attended both the semifinal and final matches where India successfully defended their title.
Known for his serious demeanor, Gambhir often faces light-hearted jabs about his lack of smiles. However, Dhoni's recent post highlighted Gambhir smiling during the trophy presentation after India's win against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In response to Dhoni's comments, Gambhir remarked that he would love to see Dhoni in a coaching capacity, leading the team to a World Cup triumph himself. "It was great to see him at the final. I hope one day he can take my place, and I can write a similar post about him. This smile is for MS Dhoni, and I hope he can smile from the dugout one day," Gambhir stated.
When asked about the perception of him not smiling often, Gambhir emphasized that his primary goal is to ensure the team continues to win and bring joy to the nation. "If losing my smile means making the entire country happy, then it's worth it. My focus is on making the country smile, and it's my players who bring me joy," he added.
