Gautam Gambhir's Emotional Triumph

Gautam Gambhir expressed deep emotions following India's victory in the T20 World Cup, marking a significant milestone in his coaching career. He made history by becoming the first individual to win the tournament both as a player and as a head coach. Previously, Gambhir was a key player in the 2007 championship under MS Dhoni's leadership, where he scored 75 runs in the final against Pakistan, helping India secure a narrow five-run win in Johannesburg.

During the post-match press conference alongside Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, Gambhir dedicated the win to cricket legends Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. He praised Dravid for his remarkable contributions to Indian cricket, stating, “I want to dedicate this trophy to Rahul bhai and then to Laxman bhai. Rahul bhai has done an incredible job in maintaining the strength of Indian cricket, and I am grateful for his efforts throughout his tenure.” He also acknowledged Laxman's unconditional support, particularly behind the scenes, emphasizing the importance of the Centre of Excellence (COE) for Indian cricket. Additionally, Gambhir expressed gratitude towards chief selector Ajit Agarkar for his dedication despite facing criticism.

Support from Jay Shah During Challenging Times

Gambhir shared that Jay Shah, the ICC chief, was the only person who reached out to him during the challenging periods of his coaching stint, particularly after the home series defeats against South Africa and New Zealand. He remarked, “I must thank Jay Bhai because during my lowest moments, he was the only one who called me. When I was appointed as head coach, I had no prior experience, yet he placed his trust in me. With leaders like him, Indian cricket is certainly in safe hands.”
