Disappointing Finish for Bhullar

Singapore City [Singapore], April 26: Gaganjeet Bhullar faced a challenging conclusion at the International Series in Singapore, finishing with a score of 2-over 73, which placed him tied for 26th. Earlier in the week, he had shown promise at the Sentosa Golf Club, but ultimately fell short, as reported.

The four-time IGPL champion and 11-time Asian Tour winner started strong with a birdie on the second hole. However, he struggled over the next seven holes, dropping four shots. On the back nine, he managed to birdie the 10th, 17th, and 18th holes, but a double bogey on the 15th marred his performance.

Another IGPL standout, Pukhraj Singh Gill, emerged as the top Indian player on the final day, achieving his best score of the week with a 4-under 67, which included five birdies and one bogey, also finishing tied for 26th alongside Bhullar.

Karandeep Kochhar, the only other Indian to make the cut, finished in 70th place with a score of 76.

Korea's Jeongwoo Ham maintained his lead for the fourth consecutive day, carding a 3-under 68 to secure a wire-to-wire victory. He was closely pursued by Australia's Cameron John, who shot a 66 on a thrilling final day.

Ham concluded the tournament with a total score of 16-under, finishing two shots ahead of John. John’s impressive 66 was matched by Spain's Josele Ballester (66), Thailand's Jazz Janewattananond (68), and Japan's Tomohiro Ishizaka (70), who all tied for third, seven strokes behind the winner.

This victory also earned Ham and John spots in the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, as this tournament is part of the Open Qualifying Series.

The weather played a significant role today, with play being halted for over three and a half hours due to lightning after three days of extreme heat and humidity.

Ham's win marks him as the second Korean to triumph in this event, following Younghan Song's victory in 2016, where he defeated then-world number one Jordan Spieth by one stroke on The Serapong.

This is Ham's first win on the Asian Tour, having participated in only 24 events since turning professional eight years ago, with 16 of those tournaments held in Korea.

The Asian Tour will continue with the GS Caltex Maekyung Open next week, one of Korea's most esteemed tournaments, celebrating its 45th edition at Namseoul Country Club, located south of Seoul.
