Impressive Performances at the Singapore Open

Singapore, April 23: Gaganjeet Bhullar, a standout player for AM Green IGPL, delivered an impressive performance with a 4-under par round, showcasing his skills at the Singapore Open.

Another highlight of the day was Shiv Kapur's remarkable hole-in-one, which became a hot topic among the Indian players participating in the event presented by The Business Times.

This US$ 2 million International Series tournament saw Thailand's Ekpharit Wu and Japan's Jeongwoo Ham take the lead after the first round, both scoring 7-under 64s at the par-71 Serapong course located at Sentosa Golf Club. Wu, accompanied by his wife Pam, played a flawless round, while Ham recorded eight birdies alongside a single bogey, leading by two strokes.

Bhullar, aiming for his 12th victory on the Asian Tour, began his round from the 10th tee, starting cautiously with eight consecutive pars. He made his first move with a birdie on the 18th hole, followed by three additional birdies on the back nine at the 1st, 4th, and 7th holes, finishing with a score of 4-under 67, placing him Tied-6th after the opening round.

After his round on a particularly hot and humid day, Bhullar expressed satisfaction with his consistent play, stating, “I played good golf today, I was in the game throughout the 18 holes.”

When discussing his strategy for the upcoming rounds, he mentioned, “I would love to continue the form and just multiply my belief for the next three rounds.”

Regarding his approach to the challenging Sentosa Golf Club, Bhullar emphasized the importance of mental strength, saying, “You’ve got to be mentally strong. You’ve got to hit the ball so good, like from the tee, second shot, putting, your chipping, everything has to be spot on.”

Shiv Kapur, however, stole the spotlight with his hole-in-one on the par-3 second hole, using an 8-iron on the 168-yard hole for his first ace on the Asian Tour. The three-time tour winner remarked, “I’ve been playing on the Asian Tour for about 22 years, and I’ve never had a hole-in-one out here, so that’s my first.”

Despite facing challenges with two double bogeys and two bogeys, finishing 4-over for the day, Kapur found solace in his ace, stating, “The hole-in-one at least put a bit of a smile on my face, a small silver lining on what was otherwise a tough day. That’s golf — it takes a bit from you and gives a bit back. At least I walk away with something positive.”
